I'm a middle aged solicitor and law lecturer who has been desperately trying to do something creative for the last 20 years or so and who has always had in interest in the visual medium.
Having rented a private practice to lecture I started using video material in my lectures in an effort to keep delegates conscious and then started to do videos for friends and social clubs. I obtained a grant from Screen WM to get a professional editing qualification in Final Cut and attended some camera courses.
Starting the business
I heard about the Women’s Business Development Agency just by word of mouth. I got in touch and they booked me in to see a business advisor, Carolyn Reily.
Carolyn provided me with excellent guidance and advice! Talking to someone made me put things in perspective - externalising things made them seem more real and achievable.
Seeking out help from the beginning has helped my business take off as something serious rather than something I would just 'have a go at'.
And confidence was my main problem but now I have become more confident in my abilities to deliver the services I seek to provide and have realised that there are lots of other opportunities out there.
