Three years on, I now have a small, exciting business over which I have complete control, using the hobby that was my salvation – gardening.

But how did I start? For me, it was a chance conversation with a friend and an invite to attend a 4-day training programme, ‘Confidence & Business Start up Workshop’ run by the Womens Business Development Agency. And that’s how it all began. The course gave me the tools and techniques on how to set up a new business and boosted my own confidence and self belief in what I could achieve.

Fired up totally, my Garden Design business is now growing – but the support from WBDA hasn’t stopped. I meet with the Business Advisor on an ad hoc basis and have been given many tips from the Agency’s vast library of information on how to build the business, particularly on the promotional and advertisement side. They have also shown great support and enthusiasm for my future vision of working on some combined projects with colleagues who have similar interests and trading skills.

With all the building blocks in place, I feel very confident that my business will not only grow but, more importantly, provide me with a healthy, enjoyable and well balanced lifestyle for the rest of my working days.
