Nina Evans : Blueberry Hill Patisserie
My parents were in catering for a long time – they owned a wine bar – and after seeing all the hard work they put into their business, I thought I would never want to own my own business!
But then, about 10 years ago, I knew that starting my own business was something I actually wanted to do and I have worked at it ever since.
I went to Catering College and specialised in Patisserie. I have worked as a chef in various restaurants and for large catering companies, eventually managing a catering business before taking the plunge.
I have been building my confidence for 10 years by doing courses and collecting as much information as I could along the way within my employment.
I then contacted my local Business Link to find out a bit more information on where I could get some one to one business advice and support to start up my own business. They then put me in touch with the Women’s Business Development Agency.
I got support and back up from my business advisor, Joy Hunter, who provided me with confidence, the right training and some very useful contacts.
I now have my own wonderful business where I make Patisserie and desserts to supply hotels, restaurants and cafes.
Having Joy to give me the confidence I needed and belief in me that I could do it was a huge help. Looking at other people’s case studies also helped think that I could do this as well!
My business has moved ahead much quicker with the information and confidence that the WBDA gave me. With the right tools I was much more organised.
I feel much more positive, organised and confident in my business and in myself.
With WBDA I don’t feel like I am doing this on my own. It is good to know there is someone there to help and advise me along the way.
